FR38-40 Rare Chanel Couture Jacket with Black Velvet Trim in Dark Gray

From the Spring-Summer 1977 Haute Couture collection, designed by Mademoiselle Chanel's longtime assistants Jean Cazaubon and Yvonne Dudel. This jacket is from the wardrobe of a 1970s-1980s it-girl Nina Griscom. Once a model and star socialite who frequently appeared on the covers of magazines and was friends with Ivana Trump, Ms. Griscom was dressing in couture and the best designers fashion had to offer.
What's special about this piece and why we offer it in our store, even though it is not in perfect condition, is the fact that it is an haute couture jacket. Made-to-order, numbered item that requires over 100 hours of work and over 30 measurements on the body, several fittings, and assembled by hand in Chanel's atelier with the designer's final approval. Today prices for Chanel haute couture start at about 40000 euro for a suit. A true luxury, with less than 3000 haute-couture items sold every year in 1970s (that's less than 300 pieces a month) so it is indeed is a rare piece that deserves attention.

Cut in a lightweight wool-blend fabric, decorated with a sophisticated velvet trim and  lined in silk. The condition of this item is fair, it has several visible defect around the top left pocket but can be worn with a few camellia brooches covering the defects around the top right pocket. A beautiful piece to treasure for a true Chanel collector.

Size: couture pieces are cut to measurements therefore they don't feature size labels. This jacket fits like a FR38-40

Color: dark gray, almost black color. Velvet trim is a deep black color and is visually darker. 

Condition: Jacket exterior in fair condition; light discoloration, small hole that was sewn together on top front left side near the shoulder, & velvet trim defect on top left pocket and light creasing at the bow.  Jacket interior in excellent condition. 

Fabric composition: label not available, feels like a wool blend.

Measurements taken flat: back length 27 in / 68 1/2 cm; shoulder width 14 in / 35 1/2 cm; sleeve length 23 in/  58 cm; waist 18 in / 46 cm; bust 19 in / 48 cm; arm opening 7 1/2 in / 19 cm

Model's measurements: Our model Hailey is 180 cm / 5'11" ft tall. Her measurements are: bust 30 in / 76 cm, waist 27 in / 68 1/2 cm, hips are 35 in / 89 cm.
